Terrie Epstein currently is Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching and a Professor of Social Studies Education (she also is affiliated with Hunter College’s Roosevelt House and the CUNY Graduate Center’s Urban Education Program). Her research interests focus on the effects of children’s and adults’ social identities on their understandings of history and contemporary society. She has received Fulbright grants to conduct research in Brazil and New Zealand and she has been a Visiting Professor at Ulster University in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Her books include Teaching and learning difficult histories in international contexts: A critical sociocultural approach (2017); Education, globalization and the nation (2015); Interpreting national history: Race, identity and pedagogy in community and classrooms (2009); and Teaching United States history: Dialogs between historians and teachers (2009).
