My name is Sophia and I’m a double major in Biological Sciences and Clinical Psychology. I serve as the Russian-Speaking Jewish Chair at Hunter Hillel in which I organize and facilitate events that highlight Jewish cultural similarities between the Former Soviet Union countries.
Hunter Hillel provides Jewish students of all backgrounds and religious beliefs a space to bring their unique identities. Hillel has been a critical keystone of my undergraduate education. It has served itself as my first Jewish space where I felt that I could bring my cultural background and religious beliefs free of criticism. It has not only educated me about the Jewish text and the Jewish people, but more importantly provided me with valueable friendships and mentors. Therefore, I strive to maintain the same welcoming environment for other Russian-speaking Jews to bring their identities to the table and see their cultures acknowledged at their school’s campus.
My interests outside of school are sewing, painting, and gardening!
