Hunter Hillel Foundation
Vision Statement (November, 2014)
Hunter Hillel empowers Jewish students by creating a sense of community to cultivate ownership of identity, a sense of the dynamic role of Judaism and an appreciation of the rich diversity of the Jewish experience. We enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate students and create a pluralistic, welcoming, and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to grow intellectually, spiritually, and socially to their full potential. Our Hillel’s mission is to provide every Jewish Hunter student - without regard to ideological commitment or background - appropriate grounding for making meaningful choices in a complex and changing world. We help students to find a balance in being distinctively Jewish and universally human by encouraging them to pursue tzedek (social justice), tikkun olam (repairing the world), Jewish learning and to support Israel and global Jewish people-hood.
In order to make Jewish life both relevant and compelling, we seek to find new access points and doorways for our increasingly diverse and dynamic Jewish population. This is accomplished by serving as a catalyst for Jewish life, community and personal exploration and through Jewish education which takes place in different contexts and is woven into a variety of activities which strive to be substantive, passionate, engaging and joyful. We acculturate the students into our campus world, our Jewish world, our professional world and our community service world while seeking to satisfy their spiritual, holistic, lifelong/ongoing (pre-professional, professional, vocational, educational) needs within a uniquely diverse campus.
Mission Statement (May 24, 2014)
Hunter Hillel's mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish Undergraduate students at Hunter College so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. We seek to perpetuate the values and traditions of the Jewish faith by passing them on to our students; thereby ensuring Jewish sustainability and continuity.
