Need ideas on where to find Grants or Scholarships to pay for school?

Wiener Educational Center Scholarship:We are delighted to tell you that the application process is open for the Wiener Educational Center's scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. We offer scholarships to outstanding students preparing for careers in the Jewish communal sector, and consider applicants who are pursuing the following degrees:

Social work
Public administration
Nonprofit business administration
Nonprofit management
Jewish education
Clinical psychology
Rabbinic ordination


Scholarship recipients are required to intern within UJA-Federation of New York's network of agencies, area synagogues or day schools while receiving scholarship funds (a maximum of two years), and to work in those settings, here in the UJA-Federation of NY catchment area, for a minimum of two years after graduation. Scholarship recipients also participate in a number of educational seminars throughout the year to grapple with some of the key challenges facing the organized Jewish community.

Please notify both current and prospective students about our scholarships. We accept students at any point in their academic programs, though students must be studying in New York while receiving scholarship funds. Students interested in learning more or receiving an application should contact Rebecca Russo at russor@ujafedny.org. Applications can be submitted electronically to Rebecca any time before March 1, 2010, though early applications are encouraged.

Hebrew College's Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education offers a comprehensive, 36-credit curriculum that combines best educational practices, a solid grounding in Jewish texts, supervised field experience and opportunities to specialize in an area of concentration. Hebrew College's Shoolman Graduate School of Education is currently offering ten $500 Merit Scholarships to new Master of Jewish Education students enrolling in the program during the spring 2010 semester.

The JVS Scholarship Fund of the Jewish Vocational Service Agencies offers scholarships (amounts vary) as well as interest-free loans. www.jvsnj.org

The JCCs of North America Graduate Scholarship Program offers full-time students majoring in select subjects $10,000 so long as they agree to work for a JCC after graduation. www.jcca.org

The Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America offers educational grants of $500–$1,000 to high school seniors who are direct descendants of members. www.jwv.org

2. Lower Cost Loans

 

The Hebrew Loan Society offers interest-free loans of up to $7,500 per year. Eligibility varies regionally. www.freeloan.org

The Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF) provides need-based “last-dollar” loans to Jewish students from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. www.jelf.org

The Jewish Free Loan Association offers loans up to $2,500/year (up to $3,000/year for grad students) to residents of Southern California; loans for Israel Experience programs are also available. www.jfla.org/loans
