Challah for Hunger

The average Hunter College student has a lot of worries.  Certainly, at the beginning of the semester, most students worry about getting closed out of essential classes.  Each and every student prays that they don't have to go to the OASIS too often, as the lines are out the door and the service is extremely poor.  Others worry about the actual date of their graduation.  And, being Hunter College, some students worry about their financial position, and constantly have to visit the financial aid office.

What if we all had to worry about where our next meal was coming from?

We don't.  The people of Darfur do.

Driven by a want to help repair the world instilled in her by her Jewish upbringing, Eli Winkelman started a not-for-profit organization to help end hunger in Darfur.  The premise is simple: sell challah, a delicious bread with thousands of years of Jewish tradition baked into it, on college campuses and donate the proceeds to ending hunger, both in Darfur and the world over.

Hillel at Hunter College formed a close relationship with CfH over the years.  We now sell bread every Thursday from 11am-4pm (or until we sell all the Challah) on the third floor of Hunter West.  If you'd like to help us, buy a piece, or just hang out, don't be afraid to stop by and introduce yourself.  Also, we sell quickly, so make sure you get to the table ASAP!

We do take orders, so if you would like us to reserve you a Challah, just ask!
